OPERAnauts is excited to announce that OPERAnauts special edition cotton blankets are still available.
Each blanket features a collage of artistic renderings of the OPERAnauts icon—an outline of Kinshasa, the city-province where we work—created in a zentangle art style. These designs were crafted by ten artists from the OPERAnauts community during a zentangle workshop led by teaching artist Diane Forer on Zoom during the pandemic lockdown. The workshop was part of OPERAnauts’ annual end-of-year celebration in December 2021. After completing their pieces, each artist photographed their work and sent it to OPERAnauts, who combined the individual designs into the final blanket artwork.
“The zentangle is an American method for drawing, said Norbert Reidinger, CEO of Reidinger. “It not only promotes concentration and creativity but at the same time increases personal well-being.”
“The symbolism of all of us working together meditatively … on an art project about helping others in Africa was a meaningful way to celebrate OPERAnauts accomplishments of 2021,” said Amanda Berry, a long-time friend of OPERAnauts.
